Norman Black, Talk 'N Text try to tame 'Bull' Durham and deal Barako a quick knockout

STUNNED by Barako Bull in their last encounter, Talk ’N Text coach Norman Black has now ordered his wards to contain import Allen Durham as the Texters go for a quick knockout against the Energy in the PBA Governors Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Gametime is 5:45 p.m., with the top-seeded Tropang Texters needing just one win to dispose of the Energy and advance to the semifinals.

“Our main focus will be to try and slow down Durham who had a great game against us the last time out,” said Black, whose team got clobbered, 88-74 by Barako Bull during their elimination-round encounter last week.

Great 1st day of shooting for the Gilas Pilipinas documentary with family. A lot of special memories going back to the UHigh gym today too. Glad I finally had a chance to be there. It was great to see Ms. Malcolm on campus as well. As I look back I realize it's been an absolute blessing having so many people who have impacted my life in such a positive way. Wouldn't be where I am today without them. Looking forward to Day 2 of the shoot tmrw...

Ganuelas impresses in debut with Texters

INCHEON, South Korea – Rookie Matt Rosser-Ganuelas made a solid debut in a Talk n Text uniform as the Tropang Texters routed the Guam national team, 94-66, on Saturday at the University of Guam Gymnasium.

"Matt Rosser killed it and the crowd was going crazy with his unpredictable moves," Reyes told Philstar.com.

Ganuelas scored 14 points, including six straight in the second quarter, that kept the Texters in the game.

TNT import Ivan Johnson suspended in Commissioner’s Cup opener for punching Blackwater players in tuneup

Defending champion Talk ‘N Text will begin its title retention bid in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup next week without import Ivan Johnson after he was suspended by the league for punching JP Erram and Frank Golla of Blackwater Elite in a recent tuneup game.

The temperamental reinforcement was also slapped with a P50,000 fine.

No Talk 'N Text plan to replace Ivan Johnson despite anger management issues

Ivan Johnson may be a risk for most teams because of his hot temper, but it's a risk Talk 'N Text is apparently willing to take.

Still, TNT team manager Virgil Villavicencio said there are no plans to bring in a new import to replace Johnson, who he said has been impressive in practice and is getting along well with his teammates.

"Ang ganda ng tinatakbo ng team with Ivan," said Villavicencio. "Makikita mong gusto ng team na kalaro si Johnson."

Johnson led Talk 'N Text to the Commissioner's Cup championship last season but also figured in a number of skirmishes, especially with Rain or Shine and coach Yeng Guiao, that constantly put his reliability under question.

At the very least, TNT sources said the coaching staff and management are inclined to bring in a standby import, just in case Johnson gets involved in another incident that could lead to a harsher penalty.

Tropang TNT guard Jayson Castro out with Achilles injury

The 5-foot-8 sweet-shooting guard rested throughout the week and tried joining practice on Saturday morning, but complained of pain later.

“Nag-try siya kanina mag-practice pero medyo masakit pa daw eh, so malabo siguro siya bukas (Sunday),” TNT physical therapist Dexter Aseron told FOX Sports.

TNT is currently mired at the bottom of the standings at 2-4, in the company of Star and GlobalPort as of posting time.

Star and GlobalPort though though have chances to improve their respective standings as they face separate opponents on Saturday at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Aseron said they wouldn’t want to risk playing Castro with pain on his right Achilles for fear of possibly aggravating it.

“Medyo may pain na lang ng konti, pero siyempre ayaw ko naman na may pain siya maglaro,” he added.

Tropang TNT signs former Singapore Slinger Kris Rosales

Tropang TNT boosted its backcourt after signing former Singapore Slinger playmaker Kris Rosales to a 2-and-a half-year deal on Monday.

TNT coach Jong Uichico believes the six-foot Fil-American guard has a lot of upside, which would benefit the Tropa as they try to bounce back strong in the season-ending Governors Cup.

“He (Rosales) played pretty well sa Singapore sa ABL (Asean Basketball League). He just needs some exposure because he came in kinda kulang lang sa laro, but he showed competitiveness in his game,” Uichico told FOX Sports on Friday.

Rosales, selected 19th overall by Barako Bull in the PBA Draft last year, averaged 12.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in the just-concluded 2016 ABL season, helping the Slingers to a runner-up finish against the Westport Malaysia Dragons last March.

The former Hope International standout in the US also averaged 36.6 percent from the 3-point zone, thus giving TNT an additional scoring punch at the backcourt.

Uichico said Rosales will be playing behind combo guard Jayson Castro.

“He can play in the off guard position and the point guard position so we can move people to different spots,” shared the 53-year-old Uichico, whose team bowed to Alaska, 2-1 in the Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals last week.

“But at the end of the day, we have to see him perform in the PBA. Siyempre, iba naman ang ABL, PBA D-League, but I saw him play one game when I flew to Singapore to talk to him.”

Rosales’ agent, Charlie Dy said his young ward pact will expire at the end of the 2018 Governors Cup.

“He’s happy and he’s excited to play in the PBA,” said Dy. “He’s looking forward play sa TNT and hopefully, help them win another championship.

Dy added that Rosales is also happy to be playing alongside friend and basketball idol Ryan Reyes, one of TNT’s veteran guards.

Mychal Lemar Ammons replaces Mario Little as TNT braces for tough stretch

Despite opening the PBA Governors Cup with four straight wins, TNT decided to bring in Mychal Lemar Ammons in lieu of Mario Little.

TNT team manager Virgil Villavicencio confirmed the development to FOX Sports on Friday.

“Yes, we’ve changed import already because the coaches primarily saw what we really need,” Villavicencio said.

The soft-spoken TNT manager said Little is no doubt, a hard worker, particularly on the defensive end, but Ammons’ availability made coach Jong Uichico decide on the import change.

“Mychal is a scrappy player, an energy guy, someone who can provide the rebounding for the team,” said Villavicencio.

Danny Seigle signs one conference deal with TNT

Danny Seigle is still at it at 40.

Looking to make a last hurrah, the 1999 Rookie of the Year awardee made the 15-man lineup of the TNT KaTropa Texters five days before the start of PBA Season 42 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Sunday.

“He wants to play one final season. He’s now working hard to be in great shape. But we said let’s have a one-conference contract first, then we’ll see,” said TNT team manager Virgil Villavicencio.

“He knows the direction the team is going. We’re not a young team. But if ever he hangs his jersey, he can turn to a corporate job with us,” Villavicencio added.

The previous PBA season was a trying one for Seigle. He saw action in only 15 games, submitting paltry averages of 6.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist.
