Alaska finds Octavius Ellis replacement in nick of time with ex-Nets forward Cory Jefferson

ALASKA has beaten the buzzer in its search for a replacement import as it has tapped the services Cory Jefferson for PBA Commissioner's Cup.

Jefferson, the last pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by San Antonio and last played for the Spurs' D-League affiliate Austin Spurs, is replacing Octavius Ellis, who had to leave due to an urgent family matter.

Aces coach Alex Compton confirmed the development on Thursday.

Compton believes Jefferson is a ‘championship caliber import’

The former Baylor stalwart’s latest performance came on the heels of an equally impressive 28-point, 14-rebound debut showing in Alaska’s 107-79 win over GlobalPort over the weekend despite having little time to get himself acquainted with the Aces’ system.

But more than the numbers, Compton is more impressed with how the way Jefferson is embracing the Aces’ “We Not Me” mentality with ease.

“He is not a ball dominator. Alam niya hindi siya mananalo kung mag-isa lang siya,” said Compton.

“Personally, we don’t believe we need the import to win us the championship. We need everybody, everybody has responsibility . The guys are trying to embrace that. But it helps that they believe Cory is a championship-caliber of an import.”
